History
In 1989, Brigitte and Jean-Baptiste Miane passionately embarked on a journey in viticulture, becoming the seventh generation of their family to care for the Château Fontoy vineyard. For over thirty years, they have dedicated their daily lives to the region’s emblematic wine culture in Entre-Deux-Mers, following the rhythm of the seasons and the planting cycle.
Their estate spans 26 hectares of red grapevines and 9 hectares of white grapevines, spread across the communes of Lugasson and Blasimon. Each parcel has been carefully selected to accommodate specific grape varieties: Colombard, Sauvignon, and Muscadelle for the white wines, and Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc for the reds. Their passion for craftsmanship is reflected in every grape, resulting in a light, fruity wine—perfect for moments of conviviality.
The Vineyard
Located in Lugasson, in the Gironde region, the vineyard of Château Fontoy benefits from the AOC Entre-Deux-Mers designation. It sits on clay-silt soil, ideal for vine cultivation, with a planting density of 4,000 vines per hectare across 24 hectares. The estate is composed of 40% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Sémillon, and 20% Colombard, grape varieties that contribute to the wine’s beautiful aromatic complexity.
Strongly committed to environmentally friendly practices, the estate has been certified for sustainable agriculture since the 2012 vintage and obtained Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) certification in 2018.
Winemaking & Aging
Vinification begins with skin maceration lasting between 9 and 18 hours at a temperature of 15 to 18°C, allowing for maximum aroma extraction. This is followed by careful settling before the alcoholic fermentation on fine lees, which enhances the wine’s complexity and roundness. Aging takes place exclusively in stainless steel tanks to preserve the freshness and purity of the aromas.
Wine Character
Château Fontoy displays a pale hue with golden reflections. Its expressive nose combines citrus notes, white flowers, and an exotic touch from the Colombard. On the palate, the attack is lively and refreshing, followed by a lovely roundness brought by the Sémillon. The balance between acidity and smoothness makes it a pleasant and approachable wine, ideal for pairing with seafood, grilled fish, or simply enjoying as an aperitif.
