Château des Annereaux
Beyond its history and exceptional terroir, Château des Annereaux stands out for its ecological commitment. Certified organic for over a decade, it also became the first Bordeaux wine estate to achieve B Corp certification in 2023. This strong commitment is reflected in a sustainable approach that respects both the environment and future generations.
History
Château des Annereaux is an estate steeped in history, rooted in the Lalande-de-Pomerol vineyard for over six centuries. Since 1390, the Annereau family has cultivated this land with passion and dedication, passing down their expertise from generation to generation. In 1598, the construction of the manor marked a key milestone, bearing witness to the family’s history and the estate’s evolution over the centuries.
The estate’s history is punctuated by significant moments, from its management by the Malescot family in the 17th century to the Soehnée era in the 19th century, during which bold decisions—such as the fight against phylloxera—helped shape its future. After a challenging period in the 20th century, marked by war and harsh climatic conditions, the vineyard’s revival began in 1969, driven by the family’s determination. Today, Château des Annereaux has been certified organic since 2010 and B Corp since 2023, embodying its commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable viticulture.
The Vineyard
The vineyard spans 25 hectares of gravelly and sandy-gravelly soils, lending finesse and elegance to the estate’s wines. With a planting density of 5,555 vines per hectare, it allows for an optimal expression of the terroir. The grape composition is predominantly Merlot (85%), complemented by Cabernet Franc (11%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (4%)—a perfect balance for wines that are both structured and harmonious.
Château des Annereaux follows a sustainable viticulture approach, ensuring meticulous vineyard management and rigorous monitoring of grape maturity. In a commitment to biodiversity, the estate incorporates hedgerows, beehives, and birdhouses while also utilizing solar panels to reduce its carbon footprint.
Winemaking and Aging
The winemaking process follows a traditional method, with each step carefully designed to reveal the character of the terroir. The carefully selected grapes are vinified in temperature-controlled tanks to ensure a gentle and balanced extraction of aromas and tannins.
Aging takes place in French oak barrels, 25% of which are renewed each year. This barrel maturation imparts a beautiful aromatic complexity to the wine, blending notes of ripe fruit, spices, and a subtle touch of oak.
Wine Character
Château des Annereaux offers a wine with a deep hue and purplish highlights. On the nose, aromas of black fruits, plum, and cherry intertwine with spicy and subtly toasted notes. On the palate, the attack is smooth and velvety, supported by a fine and elegant tannic structure. The balance between freshness and power provides a beautiful aromatic persistence, promising excellent aging potential.
