History
The history of Château Deyrem Valentin dates back to 1730, when its first owner, Deyrem Valentin, served on the Cantonal Council of Margaux under the First Republic. Since then, the estate has been passed down through generations. In 1928, Maurice Blanc acquired the property, and today, Jean Sorge, alongside his daughters, continues the family legacy on this exceptional terroir.
In 1999, Christelle Sorge joined the estate, taking charge of technical management, while her sister Sylvie oversees administrative operations. In 2017, the Sorge family enlisted the expertise of Hubert de Boüard Consulting to further their pursuit of excellence and precision.
The Vineyard
Located in Soussans, at the heart of the Margaux appellation, the vineyard of Château Deyrem Valentin thrives on deep gravel soils, ideal for vine cultivation. The estate spans 13 hectares and benefits from a high planting density of 8,000 to 10,000 vines per hectare, ensuring premium-quality production. The grape composition is predominantly Merlot (50%), followed by Cabernet Sauvignon (49%) and a touch of Petit Verdot (1%). With an average vine age of 30 years, the vineyard achieves a perfect balance between maturity and freshness.
Every vineyard intervention is carried out with precision: debudding, removal of secondary shoots, manual leaf thinning, and mechanical soil management. Grape maturity is rigorously monitored through observation and berry tasting, and the harvest is conducted exclusively by hand, with meticulous sorting to retain only the finest grapes.
Winemaking & Aging
Vinification follows a parcel-based approach, with each grape variety vinified separately to preserve its distinct identity. Extraction is gentle, avoiding overly intense rack-and-return techniques, while fermentation temperatures are strictly controlled between 25 and 26°C. Malolactic fermentation takes place in concrete tanks, ensuring perfect homogeneity in the wines.
Aging lasts between 12 and 16 months in French oak barrels, striking a delicate balance with 50% new oak and 50% one-year-old barrels. This choice imparts elegant aromatic complexity without overshadowing the terroir’s expression.
Château Soussans is the second wine of Château Deyrem Valentin, crafted from a meticulous selection of parcels located on the deep gravel soils of Soussans. Spanning 2 hectares and planted at a density of 10,000 vines per hectare, the vineyard features an equal blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, with an average vine age of 15 years.
Aging lasts 12 to 15 months in French oak barrels, with 30% renewed annually, enhancing both structure and elegance. Certified HVE3 and vegan, this wine reflects the estate’s commitment to sustainable and environmentally respectful viticulture.
