Château Lalande

Château Lalande embodies the heritage and passion of a family of winemakers for over two centuries. By combining tradition and innovation, it produces exceptional wines while respecting the terroir and the environment. The HVE 3 certification attests to a responsible and sustainable approach aimed at preserving the quality of the soil and the vine.

History

Château Lalande, located in the heart of the Listrac-Médoc appellation, is a wine estate with a rich family history deeply rooted in Bordeaux tradition. The earliest records of the property date back to 1816, while the construction of the main house was completed in 1819. A notarized deed from 1834 confirms the transfer of the estate from Jean Dubosc to his son Pierre Dubosc, thus initiating a lineage of passionate winemakers.

For over 200 years, no fewer than ten generations have succeeded one another at the helm of the estate. Among them, Marguerite Dubosc, née Vignolles, continued the work of her husband, Georges Dubosc, who was marked by the war of 1939-1945. In 1990, their daughter Anne-Marie Georgette Darriet, née Dubosc, took over, followed by her own daughter, Françoise Lescoutra, in 1992. Since 2012, Xavier Lescoutra, representing the new generation, has been managing the estate with dedication and passion.

Château Lalande is also a Cru Bourgeois, recognized for the quality of its wines. It has been a member of the Alliance des Crus Bourgeois du Médoc since the distinction was created in 1932 and is also part of the Vignerons Indépendants, highlighting its commitment to artisanal and authentic winemaking. Visitors are welcome to explore the estate and enjoy a tasting of the current vintages.

The Vineyard

Covering 8.9 hectares, the vineyard of Château Lalande benefits from an exceptional terroir, composed of clay-sandy soils and Pyrenean gravel, ideal for optimal grape maturation.

The grape varieties are carefully distributed as follows: 65% Merlot, which brings roundness and suppleness; 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, offering structure and aging potential; and 5% Petit Verdot, which enhances the blend with its spicy aromas and great depth.

Committed to sustainable viticulture, the estate follows environmentally friendly practices and holds the HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) certification, ensuring a balance between high-quality production and biodiversity preservation. Rigorous monitoring of berry maturity guarantees harvesting at the optimal moment to extract the best from each grape variety.

Winemaking & Aging

Château Lalande follows traditional vinification, respecting the expression of its terroir while incorporating modern precision techniques. Fermentation is accompanied by pumping over and rack-and-return, promoting a gentle extraction of aromas and tannins. A long maceration enhances the wine’s structure and complexity.

The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels, primarily second- and third-fill barrels, ensuring a subtle integration of wood and a refined evolution. This maturation process imparts lightly toasted and spicy notes, while preserving the elegance of the fruit.

Wine Character

Château Lalande reveals an intense, deep color with garnet reflections. The nose is elegant and complex, offering a beautiful aromatic palette of ripe black fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, plum), enhanced by hints of cocoa, sweet spices, and subtle oak.

On the palate, the attack is ample and velvety, supported by fine, well-integrated tannins. The balance between fruit, acidity, and tannic structure gives the wine great length and excellent aging potential. Merlot brings a silky texture, while Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure, and Petit Verdot adds spicy nuances and depth.

This wine pairs beautifully with red meats, game, rich sauces, and aged cheeses, elevating each dish with its elegance and lingering aromatic presence.
