Château Leydet Valentin

Château Leydet Valentin is the result of a commitment to excellence and a family expertise passed down for over 150 years. Certified organic since 2012, it embodies a dedication to preserving biodiversity and the Saint-Émilion terroir. The combination of meticulous hand harvesting and aging without racking ensures an authentic wine that respects both its environment and its origins.

History

Since 1862, the history of Château Leydet Valentin has been shaped through generations. This family estate, born from the division of Figeac, came to life thanks to the ambition and passion of Frédéric Leydet’s ancestors. In 1983, Clos Valentin officially became Château Leydet Valentin, recognized under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru appellation. Today, Frédéric continues this legacy, combining traditional expertise with modern techniques, with a full conversion to organic farming since 2012.

The Vineyard

The 8.87-hectare vineyard is set on a clay-limestone terroir scattered with iron-rich alios, planted at a density of 5,800 to 6,000 vines per hectare. With an average age of 38 years, the vines are composed of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Franc, allowing for an annual production of approximately 30,000 bottles.

Winemaking & Aging

Each step is carefully designed to respect the fruit: harvesting is done by hand, with a strict double sorting process. Vinification includes a 4 to 6-week maceration in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, preceded by cold pre-fermentation maceration. After a light filtration, the wine is aged for 11 to 15 months in French oak barrels on the lees, without racking, to preserve its pure expression.

Wine Character

Château Leydet Valentin stands out for its aromatic complexity, combining ripe red fruits, floral notes, and a hint of spice. On the palate, it reveals an elegant structure, balanced by freshness and silky tannins, reflecting the unique identity of its terroir.
