History

Born with the 1990 vintage, Château Piche Leibre follows the tradition of the great wines of Margaux. Its exceptional terroir, located in Macau in Médoc, is surrounded by prestigious Crus such as Château Palmer and Château Cantenac Brown. From the very beginning, this estate has captivated wine lovers with the finesse and elegance of its wines, produced in limited quantities and primarily sold en primeur.

The Vineyard

The vineyard of Château Piche Leibre spans 1.30 hectares, a rare gem where Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme. Planted on gravelly and sandy soil, it benefits from optimal natural drainage, ensuring harmonious vine development and perfect berry ripeness. With a density of 6,000 vines per hectare, cultivation follows the principles of sustainable viticulture, blending tradition and innovation to preserve the authenticity of the terroir.

Winemaking & Aging

Each step of the vinification process is meticulously orchestrated to fully express the richness of Cabernet Sauvignon. After manual harvesting, the grapes are carefully sorted on a table before undergoing full destemming. Fermentation takes place in thermo-regulated stainless steel tanks, maintaining a temperature of around 28°C to enhance the extraction of aromas and structure. During this phase, three daily pump-overs optimize contact between the must and the skins. The extended maceration period refines the tannins, while one to three rackings are carried out based on tasting evaluations. Before aging, an egg-white fining is performed following preliminary trials.

The aging process lasts 16 months in French oak barrels, with 50% renewed each year. This rigorous wood selection imparts a noble structure to the wine, along with delicate notes of spice and vanilla.

Wine Character

Château Piche Leibre is a pure and distinguished expression of Cabernet Sauvignon. It reveals a deep color with purple highlights, signaling impressive concentration. The intense and elegant nose opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and black cherry, enhanced by spicy touches and subtle woody notes. On the palate, the attack is bold, marked by a fine yet powerful tannic structure. The balance between freshness and depth provides a long, lingering finish, promising remarkable aging potential.
