Château Puyanché
Château Puyanché’s commitment to environmental preservation is one of its greatest strengths. The abandonment of acaricide and insecticide treatments, the significant reduction of sulfur doses, and the adoption of alternative solutions for soil and biodiversity management make it a pioneer in sustainable viticulture.
Beyond its ecological approach, the estate also plays a social role by welcoming numerous young trainees and individuals in professional reintegration, providing them with an environment conducive to learning and skill development.
Château Puyanché thus embodies a modern vision of viticulture, combining respect for the terroir, innovation, and knowledge transmission to produce high-quality wines that reflect the richness of the Francs Côtes de Bordeaux.
History
For several decades, Château Puyanché has been committed to sustainable viticulture, respecting both the environment and the terroir. Located in the heart of Francs Côtes de Bordeaux, this family-run estate is the result of meticulous and passionate work, driven by a strong desire to pass on its legacy to future generations. The vineyard is surrounded by a preserved natural setting, where the owners, Bernadette and Joseph Arbo, live with their family. This personal connection reinforces their commitment to sustainable and responsible practices.
Over the years, the estate has modernized while maintaining a deep respect for viticultural traditions. Since 1988, the vineyard has expanded, now covering 51 hectares across Francs Côtes de Bordeaux and Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux. In 2011, a new cellar was built to meet increasing demands for winemaking, storage, and environmental compliance.
The Vineyard
The vineyard of Château Puyanché stretches across clay-limestone soil, providing ideal conditions for the growth of its grape varieties. The white wine blend consists of 80% Sauvignon and 20% Sémillon, with vines averaging between 35 and 45 years old. This diversity imparts the wine with great aromatic complexity and a harmonious balance between freshness and roundness.
Committed to preserving biodiversity and soil health, the estate has implemented various agroecological practices: natural grass cover between the rows, reduced chemical treatments, and optimized spraying techniques to minimize inputs. Additionally, a weather station allows for precise monitoring of climatic conditions, enabling targeted interventions in the vineyard.
Winemaking & Aging
The vinification of Château Puyanché is driven by the pursuit of finesse and authenticity. The grapes, harvested at optimal ripeness, undergo a slow pressing process to preserve the integrity of their aromas. This is followed by cold settling, which results in a clear must, ready for fermentation.
Fermentation begins in tanks before continuing in barrels, promoting better aroma integration and a more complex structure. Lees stirring is performed three times a week, enhancing the wine’s texture and adding depth to its aromatic profile.
The aging process lasts for seven months in barrels, allowing the wine to develop greater complexity and elegance.
Wine Character
Château Puyanché Blanc stands out with its golden hue and bright reflections. On the nose, it reveals a rich and expressive aromatic palette, blending notes of citrus, exotic fruits, and white flowers. On the palate, the attack is lively and fresh, balanced by a beautiful roundness and a subtle woody touch from barrel aging. Its long, lingering finish makes it an exceptional wine, perfect for enjoying now or after a few years of aging.
