Its unique terroir and precise winemaking methods ensure exceptional wines that reflect the richness of the soil and the expertise of its technical team.

History

Château Suau boasts a rich and prestigious history, marked by the presence of key figures in French history. Originally designed as a hunting lodge for Jean-Louis de Nogaret de la Valette, Duke of Épernon and a powerful political figure of the 16th century, it was later restored in the 17th century under the ownership of the Suau family, whose name it still bears today. In 1750, the estate belonged to Clément Gopp, a Bordeaux merchant known as the “Seigneur de Suau.”

Today, this beautiful 82-hectare estate is located south of the village of Capian, about 35 kilometers from Bordeaux. Its single-block vineyard spans 66 hectares around the estate buildings and produces wines under the Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux, Côtes de Bordeaux, Bordeaux Blanc Sec, and Rosé appellations, as well as Cadillac sweet wines.

The Vineyard

The terroir of Château Suau is composed of clay-gravel soils, which impart a beautiful aromatic expression and a well-balanced structure to the wines. The planting density ranges from 5,000 to 7,000 vines per hectare, ensuring high-quality production. With an average vine age of 15 years, the vineyard strikes a balance between youthful vigor and mature complexity.

Cultivated under organic farming practices and certified Vegan, the estate reflects a strong commitment to environmental and ethical responsibility. A sustainable viticulture approach is applied, with meticulous monitoring of grape maturity to ensure optimal harvest conditions.

Winemaking & Aging

Each stage of the winemaking process is carefully overseen by renowned oenologist Michel Rolland. Depending on the cuvée, different techniques are employed to enhance the unique characteristics of each wine:

A classic blend of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, this red wine undergoes a cold pre-fermentation maceration before fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with pump-overs. Aged for 18 months in concrete tanks, it refines its tannic structure while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Wine Character

With intense aromas of black fruits and spices, this red wine offers a silky tannic structure and a well-balanced body. Its aging potential makes it an excellent match for red meats and rich sauces.
