Château Rosan

Beyond its unique history linked to the former plaster quarry, Château Rosan enjoys a privileged location between mountain ranges and plains, offering a remarkable panorama. The estate’s commitment to responsible viticulture, particularly through its conversion to organic farming, reflects a dedication to preserving this natural heritage and showcasing an exceptional terroir. Each parcel is carefully tended so that the resulting wine embodies both the family heritage and the richness of the soils of the Plaine des Maures.

History

Château Rosan is the culmination of passion and expertise passed down through five generations of winemakers. Built around a former plaster quarry, it still houses two lime kilns and a gypsum extraction mine, bearing witness to a rich and unique artisanal past. Perched on terraced slopes overlooking the Plaine des Maures, the estate offers an exceptional view of the Maures massif and the Chapel of Notre Dame des Anges. Located in the communes of Pignans and Gonfaron, at the heart of the AOC Côtes de Provence, it now spans 35 hectares.

The Vineyard

The terroir of Château Rosan stands out for the diversity of its soils, which include schist, clay-limestone, silty-sandy-clay, alluvium, and quartz. This geological mosaic, combined with a windy and particularly sunny Mediterranean climate, gives the wines a unique character. With a planting density of 4,000 vines per hectare and an average vine age of around 25 years, the vineyard is managed with environmentally respectful practices, certified HVE 3, and currently undergoing conversion to organic farming. The grape varieties, primarily Grenache (58%), Syrah (12%), Rolle (12%), and Cinsault (18%), provide a broad aromatic palette and great complexity to the estate’s wines.

Winemaking & Aging

Vinification follows Provençal traditions while benefiting from modern equipment. The grapes undergo skin maceration, followed by lees maceration, to extract the full aromatic richness and finesse of the grape varieties. Aging on fine lees then enhances the structure of the wines, giving them a silky texture. This meticulous process preserves freshness while highlighting the complexity of the fruit.

Cuvée Evidence: A blend of Grenache (58%), Syrah (12%), Rolle (12%), and Cinsault (18%).

Cuvée Elegance: Predominantly Grenache (76%), complemented by Rolle (19%) and Syrah (5%).

Wine Character

The cuvées of Château Rosan reflect the distinct character of the Provençal terroir: they stand out for their freshness, delicate fruit and floral aromas, and lively palate. The red wines, rich and elegant, reveal notes of dark fruits and spices, while the whites and rosés are distinguished by their balance and finesse, subtly blending the roundness of Grenache with the freshness of Rolle or Cinsault. Thanks to the presence of Syrah, the blends gain in structure and aromatic complexity.
